At the Automobilwoche Conference in Munich top decision makers from automotive manufacturers, IT service providers and suppliers discussed concerns about the connected car including car2car and car2x communication.
In the future, cars will not be internet-free zones anymore
After driving the discussion last year as a speaker in my presentation “Setting the standard – perspectives, opportunities and problems of the connected car from the perspective of an IT and engineering services company”, I was joining this year’s industry event as a listener.
This year’s speakers were Eike Böhm, Daimler, Ricky Hudy, Audi, Thilo Koslowski, Gartner, Kieran O’Sullivan, Continental, Marc Sauter, Vodafone, and Stefan Sielaff, Volkswagen.
The contributions were focusing on technical issues such as cloud computing and future strategic challenges.
The connected car will change the industry more than e-mobility within the next few years.
Because providing mobile data services in the car, promising added value to the driver, can become a business model to earn money.
But one allone can’t manage. What is needed is a joint initiative of the representatives of the automotive and telecommunications industries, and an open system architecture. However, many manufacturers still seem to rely on proprietary solutions.
So the discussion will go on. We will keep you posted.
